mimoLive 5.3: Updates to Facebook, NDI, Remote Control, Xkeys and support for macOS Catalina

mimoLive 5.3 is now available and is jam packed with cool new features:

Facebook

  • Streaming to groups is now available again. Just make sure that mimoLive is added to the list of apps with access to your group and you'll be able to stream to it by simply choosing it from the list of streaming destinations.
  • Support for 1080p in Facebook has now been enabled.
  • Facebook removed the restrictions on using the API for multicasting (streaming to multiple services). Subsequently, you can now use mimoLive to stream to Facebook and YouTube (or other services) at the same time without restriction.

NDI 4

  • mimoLive now includes NDI 4. The new version improves performance and handling of multiple network connections. It also removes the need for a separate "driver" for NDI|HX cameras.

Remote Control Surfaces

  • You can now edit the text for lower thirds and other layers directly on a Remote Control Surface.

Xkeys Hardware Support

  • The Xkeys models XK-4, XK-8 and XK-16 by P.I. Engineering are now supported as tactile inputs for controlling mimoLive.

macOS Catalina

  • mimoLive 5.3 is fully supported for macOS Catalina, including notarization by Apple to ensure that it can't be used to infiltrate your computer with malware.

Producing Audio Podcasts with mimoLive

mimoLive has a great feature for audio podcasters to record shows with your friends all over the world:

mimoCall.

It's like Skype, but with much less friction.

Just send your podcast guests a URL which they can open in their browser and they are connected immediately to your recording studio.

mimoLive records you and each of your guests separately, so you can edit in Garageband, Logic, Audacity or whatever other multitrack editing software to your heart's content.

Or, if speed of production is more important to you than a perfect edit, mimoLive also records the live down mix and you can add intro, outro and other audio to round out the production in real time.

"This is so slick. I've been waiting for 15 years for a tool like this."

- Derrick Story, The Digital Story & The Nimble Photographer podcasts

Advantages for Audio Podcasters:

  • High Audio Quality
  • Record audio in uncompressed PCM quality or AAC
  • No Accounts, no downloads
  • Separate Audio Tracks for editing in Garageband, Logic, Audacity or other
  • Optionally produce "live" to reduce production time, adding intro, outro, stingers, prerecorded material and more during recording
  • Invite your audience for live participation via live video stream

An important message regarding iStopMotion for Mac

iStopMotion for Mac 3.8.2 (and earlier) will not run on the upcoming macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.

If you're using iStopMotion on the latest macOS 10.14 Mojave, you've probably noticed a message from Apple saying that iStopMotion needs to be updated or will no longer work on a future version of macOS.

Sadly, this is true.

A bit of technical background: iStopMotion for Mac relies heavily on Apple’s QuickTime framework which will be removed in the upcoming versions of macOS due to be released in fall of 2019. iStopMotion for Mac is based on QuickTime and can not run without it. That’s why we have to give up on supporting iStopMotion for Mac in the existing form on future macOS versions.

What's the way forward?

We at Boinx Software are focused on innovation and we see changes as a chance to create new things. Software always changes and our team already works on a new application to bring back stop motion animation to your Mac. We make use of Apple’s latest technologies to deliver the best iStopMotion as soon as possible. For now we will not say how and when the new version is going to be released, but we want to let you know that we are working on it.

As a sneak peek here is a screenshot of a new iStopMotion running on macOS 10.15 Catalina:

Sneak Peek: An upcoming version of iStopMotion running on macOS 10.15 Catalina Developer Beta

What does that mean for you?

If you are using iStopMotion for Mac now and would like to continue to do so, don't update to macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Your current license and the application will not expire, but the application will not launch on macOS 10.15 Catalina. If you want to both keep using iStopMotion and update to Catalina, we recommend to get an external drive and install macOS Mojave or earlier together with the current version of iStopMotion on it. Start your Mac from the external drive when you want to use iStopMotion and from the internal drive when you want to use macOS 10.15 Catalina.

For the time being, iStopMotion for Mac will continue to be available from our online store for customers who do not plan to update to macOS 10.15 Catalina.

When will a new iStopMotion for Mac be available?

Currently, it is unclear and with all new technology, there are likely some pitfalls that are hard to predict. The prototype worked better than we expected, but there are still some issues to be worked out. So, we can't predict how quickly the new iStopMotion for Mac will be available. At this point however, it seems unlikely that it will be in time for macOS 10.15 Catalina to ship.

mimoLive 5.1 records audio, video tracks separately

With mimoLive 5.1, users can now record any video or audio source separately in addition to the program output. Referred to in broadcasting as "Isolated Recording" or ISO recording, allows you to record clean feeds of your video or audio sources for later editing.

One great use for this new feature is the Audio Podcast template. With this, audio podcasters can easily record a show with 1 to 3 remote guests and mimoLive saves a mix and the host and every guest in a separat file. (More info...).

In addition, mimoLive 5.1 fixes a number of issues and has some important enhancements.
