Boinx Software acquires PhotoPresenter

"With the acquisition of PhotoPresenter we strengthen our market position in Mac-based photo presentation solutions for professional photographers", said Oliver Breidenbach, CEO of Boinx Software. Boinx Software releases FotoMagico 2.5

FotoMagico 2.5 now supports the iMedia Browser framework. With the integrated iMedia Browser users can now seamlessly access GarageBand songs, iLife sound effects and their media libraries not only from iTunes, iPhoto and Aperture (Pro version) but also from other software including Adobe Lightroom (Pro version).

Teleprompter

With the new teleprompter of FotoMagico 2.5 Pro users can show their photos on one display and read their notes for every slide on another. Nicely animated, they get a preview showing which pictures come next and can even jump back and forth to every slide in the storyboard with just a click of the mouse.

YouTube Export

The Sharing Assistant feature adds a new export option, allowing to upload photo presentation videos directly to YouTube to reach a global audience. Video encoding for YouTube can be accelerated with the powerful Turbo.264 video encoder hardware from Elgato.

FotoMagico 2.2: Your PDEE (Personal Digital Export Expert)

Your Personal Digital Expert aka Sharing Assistant

The new Sharing Assistant makes it super easy to create the files you want for making a DVD, putting them on your iPod, iPhone or Apple TV, or playing in full quality on another Mac. Just choose whatever you want to create and the assistant will adjust all the settings for you. The Sharing Assistant is based on Plug-ins, expect to see additional ways of sharing your slideshows over the coming months.

Easily Create Websites

"Putting a FotoMagico show on the web has never been easier", says Oliver Breidenbach, Co-Founder of Boinx Software. "FotoMagico 2.2 includes a number of very nicely made web page templates. Just select one of these templates and FotoMagico will not only create the proper movie file, but also all the HTML code needed to embed the file in a web page. It will then also upload all the required files to your FTP server or .Mac account. It is so easy, our beta testers loved it. Some had never put their shows online before because it was such a pain."

Elgato Turbo.264

For the web, your iPod, iPhone or Apple TV, you need a so-called MPEG-4 movie. Encoding of this format is a very computing intensive task which takes a lot of time and while it is running, you can't use your computer for other things. Except for when you use dedicated encoding hardware such as the Turbo.264 stick by Elgato. FotoMagico 2.2 makes use of the Turbo.264 automatically when it is plugged into your computer's USB port. This frees up your computer's processor so that you can do other things while encoding, especially on older Macs. The Elgato Turbo.264 sells for USD 99.95 at the Elgato US Online Store.

iChat Theater, QuickLook and other Leopard Goodies

Mac OS X Leopard has a number of cool new things. Among them the iChat Theater. While you are video conferencing with your client, you can play your latest draft of his FotoMagico show which the client can see on the other end of the connection. You'll receive immediate feedback without the need to send your show to your customer. Another great thing is QuickLook which lets you see the contents of a file without launching the application that created it. This comes in handy searching for a file in Finder or clearing out the mess of files that tend to collect on the desktop.

iStopMotion 2.0: Stop Motion Animation, The Next Generation (Ready for Leopard)

Home, Express, Pro

iStopMotion 2 comes in three flavors, targeting different users. The Home edition is for the family, where the parents want to spend a great weekend with their kids. The Express version is for the serious hobbyist animator, with all the great stuff appreciated by pro animators at a reasonable price. The Pro edition is for the animator who makes money (or plans to) with stop motion animation. A special education edition with a multi-user license key is available for educational institutions.

Virtual Stage

"Our goal was to add new capabilities that appeal to professionals while keeping it so easy that kindergarden kids love to use it. It was an ambitious goal, but we think we achieved it with iStopMotion 2", says Florian Albrecht, responsible for iStopMotion's development at Boinx Software. An example for this is the chroma keying that provides a virtual stage. Kids can have their toys walk on the moon or explore a coral reef deep down in the ocean. Meanwhile the flexibility of the feature brings ambitious movie ideas into the reach of the ambitious hobbyist and the pro.

Taking a Cue

Instead of painstakingly planning your animation and creating an "x-sheet", simply load in a cue video to guide your animation. This video is displayed alongside the animation window or composed into the animation video transparently. Before this, one of the biggest challenges was to animate dialog and get the mouth movement right.

Realtime Recording

Sometimes it is handy to be able to record a sequence of a specific number of frames in real time. A pro customer requested this feature for quickly and easily creating zooms and pans with a motion controlled camera that they use to record cartoons.

Non-Square Pixels, Keyboard and Voice Commands

As video pixels are not square in many video standards like DV, support for non-square pixels ensures that a circle remains a circle regardless of video source or destination format. Keyboard and Voice commands are customizable. Animators can configure their own keyboard commands or attach a programmable keypad to create a control console.
