BoinxTV Plays Nice with Blackmagic Design ATEM Switchers

Puchheim, Germany – February 18, 2015BoinxTV is taking productions to the next level by fully integrating with production switchers from Blackmagic Design, including the ATEM Television Studio and ATEM Production Studio 4K. A plug-and-play broadcast production package, the Mac-based BoinxTV lets users combine live camera video, clips, photos, 3D graphics, lower thirds and audio to create recordings and stream live presentations, podcasts, concerts, sporting events and more.

The new integration, which is made possible by the Blackmagic Design ATEM SDK, lets users control the ATEM switcher directly within BoinxTV, expanding the number of switchable video inputs users can control from their BoinxTV setup to eight. The integration also allows BoinxTV to offload to the ATEM the computing power required to switch between multiple sources. As a result, the overall production performance is greatly improved, enabling higher resolutions and better graphics for existing BoinxTV users looking to push productions beyond their current capabilities. Conversely, ATEM users are now able to expand the graphics and titling power of their production setup by adding BoinxTV to their workflows.

Many customers have asked us if there is a graphics solution to interface directly with Blackmagic Design’s switchers – so we built one,” comments Bastian Wölfle, Boinx Software’s video expert. “Using the ATEM SDK, we were able to replicate almost the exact same control surface functionality as seen in Blackmagic Design’s ATEM Software Control into BoinxTV, eliminating the need for a separate ATEM controller console. This also offloads a great deal of heavy-lifting onto the Blackmagic Design switcher, giving BoinxTV users vastly improved computing power, which means a faster workflow and more powerful graphics.

To sync an ATEM switcher with BoinxTV, broadcasters simply set up the switcher with their various camera inputs, then feed the program and multiview (optional but recommended) outputs through an HDMI or SDI capture device, such as a Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder (recommended by Boinx), into the computer running BoinxTV. Just a few additional simple steps and users will be off and broadcasting. Watch the full tutorial here.

The new ATEM controls that can be integrated into BoinxTV, using an add-on layer, will appear familiar to anyone who has already used Blackmagic Design’s ATEM Software Control. After setting any custom presets, such as transitions, in the Blackmagic Design software, users can exit out and manage all controls directly from the BoinxTV interface. They can easily set keyboard controls, determining cuts and transitions with simple keystrokes.

Technical Requirements BoinxTV with integrated BoinxTV ATEM Controller requires a Mac running OS X 10.8 or newer, plus one HDMI or SDI capture device for the ATEM program and one capture device for the ATEM multiview output. Recommended: 2x Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder + Thunderbolt Cables. Learn more here.

BoinxTV is compatible with all Blackmagic Design ATEM switchers – ATEM Television Studio, ATEM Production Studio 4K (1 M/E and 2 M/E models) – and supports the first eight inputs. Customers requiring more than eight camera inputs can request extended BoinxTV support by contacting Boinx Software directly at sales@boinx.com.

Furthermore the BoinxTV ATEM Controller requires BoinxTV 1.9.10 or newer.

Pricing and Availability The BoinxTV ATEM Controller can be downloaded from the Boinx FastSpring store for 99.99 USD (http://boinx.com/boinxtv/buy/).

Press Review Kits Members of the media are invited to review the BoinxTV ATEM Controller. Please note that interested reviewers must have access to an ATEM Switcher device. For more information, please contact Anya Oskolkova at anya@zazilmediagroup.com.

The Report Cards Are In: New iStopMotion for iPad and BoinxTV Releases Make The Grade

Puchheim, Germany – June 19, 2013 – Boinx Software is pleased to receive outstanding marks on the latest updates to its classroom-friendly products iStopMotion for iPad 2.1 and BoinxTV 1.9. iStopMotion for iPad 2.1 now offers support for WebDAV servers and also features push notifications for its Theater of user-generated content. BoinxTV 1.9 is now compatible with OS X Mountain Lion and has been updated to offer greater stability, especially when working in Layers. iStopMotion for iPad will be featured at the International Society for Technology in Education Conference (ISTE), which will be held in San Antonio, Texas from June 23 to June 26. Attendees to the ISTE show can see the app in action as well as learn more about Boinx’s other apps including BoinxTV and FotoMagico in Hall D at booth 4281.

"At Boinx, we strive to develop apps that are both comprehensive enough for the working professional yet easy enough for students at all levels. I feel it’s so important for students to have access to professional tools, as it gives them the opportunity to explore advanced technology in an educational setting," says Oliver Breidenbach, CEO, Boinx Software. "It is really amazing to see what students are capable of creating with our software, and we’re really proud that teachers have embraced iStopMotion, iStopMotion for iPad and BoinxTV. From the beginning, iStopMotion for iPad was designed with education in mind. When it comes to students, instant gratification is so important. Students are more likely to stick with a task if they can see immediate results, safely make mistakes, and achieve something they may have never deemed possible."

With iStopMotion for iPad, Learning is Fun

With the iPad becoming more and more prevalent in the classroom, iStopMotion for iPad is the perfect tool to help make learning a fun and immersive experience. The latest update to the app makes it possible to collect content from multiple iPads on a WebDAV server, eliminating the need for cloud-based services like YouTube or Dropbox, which are often restricted in schools. Students can now more easily collaborate on stop motion and timelapse video projects, strengthening teamwork and storytelling skills.

Show-and-Tell With iStopMotion for iPad

Students and teachers alike can take a tip (or three or four) from the Animation Chefs, who run a web series dedicated to teaching people, young and old, the art of animating. iStopMotion for iPad is one of the Chefs’ favorite tools; they tell us:

"[iStopMotion] takes full advantage of the iPad's simplicity and tactility. The light bulbs go off over [students’] heads when they get how expressive they can be with their imagination. Visual storytelling is not something they've ever been taught or planned out with a camera. They can write stories. They can speak stories. Now they can show stories. Anything they can think of is possible! Powerful stuff."

Cody Creed, an art teacher from Manitoba, Canada, has been using iStopMotion for years to enhance the learning curriculum. In the past, he had students use the Mac version to create animated public service announcements to spread awareness about clean water in India. They held a community fundraiser where the classes premiered their films and raised over $2,000 to fund the building of two wells in Andhra Pradesh. Creed also uses iStopMotion for iPad for less complex tasks. When his students are learning about the solar system, he has them animate planetary motions and retrograde epicycles. He tells us, "It makes so much more sense when they see an hour of small motions sped up, becoming repeated patterns. It is great to tell them that the ancient astronomers could only observe and imagine the motion. They lacked the technology to recreate it."

Becoming an iStopMotion for iPad Pro

The iPad is a phenomenal tool for learning and practicing photography, movie making, and storytelling. The device is both powerful and easy to use. Students and teachers can sharpen their iStopMotion for iPad skills with iPad Animation by Craig Lauridsen, which instructs on how to make stop motion animation movies on the iPad by combining iStopMotion for iPad, GarageBand and iMovie. The guide offers everything from the stop motion basics to comprehensive tips and tricks that cover camera settings, lighting, picture composition, frame rates, stabilizing rigs and more. iPad Animation also includes lesson plans to help teachers get a jumpstart on using iStopMotion for iPad in the classroom.

iPad Animation by Craig Lauridsen will be available soon on the iBooks Store. For more information on obtaining a review copy, members of the media can request more information by contacting megan@boinx.com.

Students Broadcasting Students Through the Power of BoinxTV

Boinx Software’s studio-in-a-Mac program BoinxTV also just received a tune-up, graduating to version 1.9. Highly popular with educators, many schools worldwide use BoinxTV to broadcast their own student-produced news programs. The application is now OS X Mountain Lion compatible and allows users to preview productions using full Retina Display resolution for more accurate renderings and a better user experience. Boinx also replaced JavaScript with Lua in Layers for improved stability and completely rewrote the Audio Engine for better performance, higher quality and less latency. Best of all, BoinxTV now has new Wiki Documentation to help users learn the ins and outs of the program.

Learn more about how educators can use BoinxTV in school here.

Shake, Rattle and Roll With New BoinxTV 1.8 Release

Puchheim, Germany – June 8, 2011 – Boinx Software is pleased to announce the latest version of its award-winning live video production software, BoinxTV 1.8, introducing the powerful new Chroma Key Pro filter and the new LibOrientator technology. The new Chroma Key Pro delivers better video quality working with green screens in professionally lit or controlled backgrounds. Brand new LibOrientator technology transmits readouts of the sensors in your iPhone® or iPad® directly into your BoinxTV layers, allowing for real time control of on-screen objects in BoinxTV. "The BoinxTV 1.8 release offers new, unique, and creative tools, especially for producing cool screencasts, training videos and reviews of iPad/iPhone apps. What makes BoinxTV so unique is the production in real time, saving video producers hours of editing and special effects work," comments Oliver Breidenbach, CEO, Boinx Software. "It really takes screencast and video production to a whole new level."

LibOrientator Takes Screencasts to Next Dimension

Simply download the Orientator app from the iPhone App Store on your iPhone or iPad 2, connect to your computer via Wifi, transmit the video signal using either an Apple® Digital AV, VGA or Video adapter and the device will appear as a floating layer on screen in your BoinxTV broadcasts for dynamic, motion controlled demos of your favorite iOS apps. Whether you are tilting your iPad 2 to the right to speed around sharp curves in your favorite racing game, or moving your iPhone in a circular pattern for 360 degree photos with your You Gotta See This app, the LibOrientator technology tracks your every move on screen in BoinxTV for stellar screencasts, video reviews or product demos. See a demo video here.

"Developers can easily integrate the LibOrientator library into their apps. However, if you do not have access to the source code, simply tap an iPhone 4, running the Orientator app, to the iPad 2 running the app you want to demo, hook the iPad 2 to your Mac via video cables and you are ready to create demos that rock," says Oliver. "Using all your devices, iPhone, iPad and Mac together in this unique new way illustrates how the best of every device can be combined to create amazing results. And the process is really fun!"

LibOrientator technology has been included in a number of new BoinxTV layers. For the iPhone/iPad app demos and tutorials, there are the iOS Device Demo 3D and iOS Device Demo layers, which display a 3D model of an iPhone or iPad where the video from the device is projected on the model's display. The data from the Orientator app is used to remotely control the 3D position of the model on the BoinxTV screen matching the movement of the real device. An Apple Design Award layer commemorates BoinxTV’s Apple Design Award of 2009 and is included for demo purposes. A Google Maps layer shows a map centered on the GPS position of the iOS device running Orientator app. See the LibOrientator website here for details.

Chroma Key Pro Takes Color to New Levels

BoinxTV 1.8 also includes the new Chroma Key Pro filter which delivers much higher image quality when used with a well lit backdrop. The key is much crisper and the resulting video is sharper. The blending of edges and background is greatly improved, and there are fewer spills than with the previously standard chroma keyer. "Chroma Key Basic," the standard filter, is still included for the more ad-hoc situations where lighting and color of the backdrop are not optimal. Both chroma key filters now include a quick mask feature that allows the user to cut off areas of the video where the green screen backdrop is not present or not working well due to lighting conditions.

Version 1.8 Various Fixes and Improvements

BoinxTV 1.8 continues to improve on performance and stability. Several layers have been updated with new settings, and a new Twitpic layer shows photos that people post to the popular Twitter photo service. BoinxTV 1.8 also now features iMedia Browser version 2, which results in better performance and lower memory consumption when adding media from the supported libraries to BoinxTV documents.

Middle School Students Turn Classroom Into TV Studio: Munich International School Goes Live with BoinxTV

Puchheim, Germany - March 17, 2011 - Boinx Software's live-video production software, BoinxTV, is changing the face of after school activities at the Munich International School (MIS). Used during a new after school program called TV News Station, BoinxTV has become a hit with a group of MIS Middle School students who call themselves MIS Live. Gathering together facts, pictures, events, interviews, and information from around the MIS campus community, the students write and edit scripts, cut movies and produce their own live TV news program via BoinxTV. They cover everything from class field trips to sports, school gossip and the latest tech gadgets on campus, and deliver the news straight to their peers in weekly broadcasts. BoinxTV is a piece of software that allows for the creativity of every child, says Pia Druggan, IT Integration Specialist, MIS Middle School. The great thing about BoinxTV is that it gives students the same look and feel of CNN or BBC. If you have a story to tell and it could look and feel like a news story, BoinxTV is the perfect platform to use.

Hear more about MIS Live and BoinxTV in an interview with the team’s members: here

To make each MIS Live broadcast a success, the students must work together to complete their assignments and overcome the many hurdles of live TV. They not only learn the "big picture" of TV production and live broadcast software, but also the advantages of working as a team and the importance of relationship building. BoinxTV is a brilliant tool for education, says Oliver Breidenbach, CEO, Boinx Software. Expressing yourself in and mastering the production of video has become a whole new dimension of learning and creativity, which is slowly integrating itself in the curricula of schools around the world. It has become a new and essential skill for students in the 21st century.
